Community Futures East Kootenay and Ground Floor Coworking Space are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Intern to join our growing team. This Internship will lead to permanent employment. Working under the direction of CFEK’s General Manager and the Ground Floor’s Community & Marketing Manager, your role will involve completing and implementing the YXC Makerspace sustainable business plan and programming, supporting our marketing and promotion efforts, and working closely with our partners and stakeholders. YXC Makerspace will be a dynamic and evolving work environment, requiring a creative, organized and motivated team player with an entrepreneurial, “get it done” attitude. You will interact extensively with people of all ages, making sure that they not only get the most out of our facilities and programs but have the opportunity to shape and influence our community. Your ability to adopt a flexible work schedule that includes weekends and occasional extended work hours is critical to successfully launching and sustaining this exciting new community resource.

Your diverse skill set will enable you to:

Implement and adjust our sustainable business plan and marketing strategy as we grow and evolve
Liaise with important stakeholders, developing and launching programs for a diverse membership
Collect, interpret and report on key performance indicators, internally and to our funding agencies
Identify and pursue new revenue opportunities, including grants, sponsorships and sales
Learn, use and teach others to safely operate technical equipment, such as 3D printers and laser engravers, as well as a develop a basic understanding of variety of software programs and handheld tools and equipment
Maintain a safe, secure and clean work environment
Develop, document and adopt routine maintenance schedules, safe operating plans and best practice procedures with and for our members, staff and volunteers
Manage an inventory of consumable items, including monitoring and replenishment
Plan, coordinate and host events related to the Makerspace and our programs
Communicate with organizations locally and regionally to coordinate program delivery and manage down duplication of effort
Be a knowledgeable and encouraging resource for our members, potential members and volunteers
Contribute to the team in other ways as needed from time to time, such as for front desk coverage

What we need from you:

Post-secondary education in computer science, digital fabrication, education or engineering; alternatively, experience in any of these fields will be considered
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and objectives, often responding to external influences driving the need to be flexible
Ability to learn quickly, then employ and teach these new skills with remarkable attention to detail
Ability to interact with members, stakeholders, volunteers and others in a variety of settings, consistently achieving positive outcomes
Prior experience using highly technical equipment and software (such as AutoCAD, Fusion 360 or Adobe Illustrator)
Excellent technical and business communication skills, written and verbal
It would be great if you also had:

Applied experience in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) areas of study, including facilitating or teaching
Experience using instructional technology, including providing instruction via remote delivery platforms
An unrelenting passion for helping others succeed as inventors, innovators and creators
